Ashurst Lake
Oct 29, 2018 - 8:51 AM - by stoneflynut
Fishing has been good for hold-over brown and rainbow trout and water quality at Ashurst is the best I've seen in 30 years. Maybe it's the fencing or all the summer and fall rains, but whatever, it is not brown!

We fished it Wednesday and landed two nice rainbows between 2-3 pounds and some smaller browns; went back Sunday and caught 2 fat and sassy browns about 2 and 3 pounds each. There were lots of anglers fishing from shore but we were using a float tube and a pontoon trailing... [Read More]

AZ Game and Fish Study: The Fate of Stocked Trout - A Four Year Study
Oct 23, 2018 - 6:30 AM - by BunsbertMontcroffEsq
Thought there were some interesting insights from this study concluded by AZG&F and posted to their website:

1. Most trout don’t survive past one week of being stocked

Soon after they’re stocked, the fish are being caught. Anglers: It seems you’re doing a great job of fishing AZ.

Rim Streams - Current Conditions??
Sep 19, 2018 - 2:09 PM - by BunsbertMontcroffEsq
Was wondering if anyone had been on the Rim Streams lately? I would like to head up this weekend, but will wait for conditions to improve if the water levels/flows are still super low.

I tend to visit the East Verde above Washington Park TH, Haigler from Fisherman's Point, and the C & R section of Canyon Creek, if anyone has info on those particular areas.

Of course, if I make it up this weekend I will report back what I find. Thanks!

First Apache Trout
Oct 15, 2018 - 9:36 AM - by Bucksnort
I love fishing pocket water using the high stickn', short line nymphing method. I caught my first Apache trout in the Black River where road 25 meets the river below the bridge. It was about 13" in length. I would have been satisfied with a four inch Apache. I can cross this off my bucket list.

Before this fish, I caught two four inch browns then three seven inch browns. The Apache was the sixth fish. I hooked but quickly lost what looked like two more Apaches of... [Read More]

Crawfish Critique?
Sep 15, 2018 - 4:10 PM - by Hooty
Heading up to the Whites in a few weeks. Tied these on a #6 weighted jig-head hook. The idea being the hook stays up as it twitches across the bottom.
